The dog days of summer are soon to be over. Even in the late stages of summer, it can be challenging to escape the relentless heat. You cannot hide indoors in the air conditioner all summer. There are ways to escape the late heat without losing your mind.

Drink A Lot of Water

Your body is made up of almost entirely water, so take the necessary steps to keep your body hydrated. You sweat a great deal more during the hot months requiring more water intake. Keep a good stockpile of ice in the freezer to keep the cold water on tap. Stock your water bar at home with sliced lemons, cucumbers, and a variety of fruits to make the water more appealing to your taste buds. Try to avoid sugary drinks and alcohol because they will make you more thirsty.

Check Your Air Conditioner

Whether you live in California or New York, the late days of summer produce unbearable amounts of heat in the age of global warming. Beat the heat by having your HVAC in Santa Rosa or Brooklyn serviced by qualified professionals. A checkup will consist of a technician checking all of the components of the unit to make sure they are working at maximum capacity. You should also change your filter each month because your unit works harder than usual during the summer. Preventative maintenance will prevent costly and inconvenient breakdowns. Aim to have your unit serviced every six months.

Dress Appropriately

Your clothes play an essential role in keeping you fresh during the summer months. Summer outfits should be made from cotton, linen, or any other “breathable” material. Save the dark colors for the wintertime because they trap heat. Whites, light blues, pinks, and yellows will absorb less of the sun. Wear clothes that are loose-fitting and allow air to flow through your body. Invest in some comfortable open-toed shoes to keep your feet dry and comfortable. Just make sure you have a fresh pedicure at the beginning of summer before you show off your tootsies.

Hit the Pool

A sweet, refreshing dip in the pool is a great relief from the outdoor sauna. Community centers, YMCAs, and recreational complexes are some locations where you access a pool. You might be able to get a discount if you did not join earlier in the summer. Try the beach or a lake if you want to stay outdoors. It’s best to go in the morning while the sun is not blazing. Make sure to protect yourself by wearing sunblock. Nothing is more miserable than being sunburnt and dealing with hot weather at the same time.

Turn off Electronic Devices

Try sticking your hand in front of the television to feel how much heat it generates. Computers, cell phones, tablets, and other electronic devices all can create a lot of extra warmth in your home. Avoid leaving your TV on while you sleep if you want a comfortable night of rest.

Soon the summer season will be a distant memory, and you will be scraping snow off of your car. Learn to embrace and adjust to the heat by incorporating some simple lifestyle changes.
