Are there any benefits of blogging? Absolutely! Quite a lot of them actually, from growing your website traffic consistently to attracting new customers and becoming a brand leader in your industry. Keep reading below to learn how the power of blogging can help you grow your business online.

Content marketing has been around for decades, helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Yet, the form of content marketing has changed a lot over time.

Think about the invention of the printing press in 1440, then the appearance of television in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and then the outburst of digital technology in the 21st century. What all these key historical moments have in common? They all reshaped the form of content entrepreneurs used to attract new customers.

Take Gillette, for example. The American brand of safety razors and other personal care products transited from promoting its razors via local newspapers over 100 years ago to having a blog that shares shaving and body grooming tips or facial hair styles with men worldwide.

Times have changed, and outbound advertising has become passe as the dot-com boom took over the entire world. Consumers these days no longer read newspapers. They read blogs on the Internet. There are over 600 million blogs in the world today. And 77% of Internet users read these blogs regularly.

So, still on the fence about why you should use blogging as a marketing tactic? We have many reasons why you should do it. Keep reading below to find out blogging can help your business grow.

Blogging helps drive traffic to your website

Everybody who wants more traffic to their websites raise your hands. Since you’re reading this article, the chances are that you want more visitors to your website too. So, assuming this, we’re on the same page.

Here’s the good news: Blogging can help you get more visitors to your website.

Take a second to think about the way consumers find your business website.

  • They can type your business’s name in their browser, but these are people that are likely already your customers. So, if they enter your website, you aren’t getting more traffic than you already had.
  • They can see your business in the tons of paid ads you place all over the Internet. Yet, this can be quite expensive and ineffective in the long run because the second you stop paying adds, your traffic stops as well.

Now, what if we told you that blogging could solve all these problems? It can be the most efficient way to gain more traffic and also keep your traffic growing in the long-run.

First of all, with every new blog post you write, one more page on your website gets indexed, translating into one more opportunity for your website to appear in search engines in organic search.

What’s more, blogging helps drive long-term results. How? Most of your sales and traffic won’t likely come from content published in the current month but from your older posts. So, the more consistent you are with publishing new content on your website, the better results you get in the long-run.

Blogging helps convert traffic into leads

Website traffic is great, but it’s not enough to grow your business unless you convert it into leads.

Just like every new blog post is a new indexed page, each post is also a new chance to generate new leads. Why? Well, it’s simple: all you have to do is to add a lead-generating call-to-action to every blog post, which will engage your visitors.

What kind of lead-generation call-to-action should you use? Well, this obviously depends on the nature of your business. Yet, these calls-to-action can lead your visitors to things such as free ebooks, free fact sheets, or free trials of your product, or basically pretty much any piece of content that will make your visitors be willing to exchange their information, such as name or email address, for.

Here’s how it goes:

  • The visitors come to your website.
  • They read your blog post and see the call-to-action for a free offer.
  • They click on the offer, which takes them to the page with a form where they can fill in their information.

After they fill out the form, your visitors receive the free offer while you receive their information, which you can then use in your marketing campaigns.

Blogging helps establish authority in your industry

Did you know that 77% of bloggers publish “how-to” articles? The next most popular format, used by 57% of bloggers, is the list-type articles.

Now, there is no coincidence in almost all bloggers preferring these two types of articles over other types. The best business blogs answer common questions that their audience has about their products, services, or industry.

But why does blogging make you an authority in the eyes of your audience? It’s really easy to understand: when you answer all your audience’s questions, you provide them with relevant content, and having all the answers makes you look like an expert.

If your visitors can find the answers to the questions they have on your website, it’s a bigger possibility that they will also purchase with you instead of leaving your website for a competitor’s product.

What’s more, for the same reasons, blogging helps make your customers loyal. Since you are an expert in the eyes of your audience, and you’ve offered them answers to the questions they had before, the chances are that they will come back to you whenever they need more relevant information about your industry.

Blogging helps get exposure and visibility

Did you know that 74% of Internet users say they are more likely to share blog posts with their colleagues? But that’s not all! 59% of people will share an article on their social media accounts, even without ever reading it.

So, every time you are creating a new blog post, you are also creating more content that your audience can share on their social media accounts with their peers. This helps your business get exposed to a new audience that you may not even know yet.

  1. Agree with all the benefits James; I suggest three additional and very positive unexpected benefits that blogging will bring to your business:

    1. Blogging will refine your thinking. What is your point of view on a topic, what other experiences have you acquired, how do these impact on your sector and customer, and how do your solutions fit to these?
    2. Blogging will help you see things from a users perspective, what questions do they have and are you addressing these?
    3. Be more relevant to the customer? The experience, thinking and feedback from blogging will improve your sales messaging.

Top tip, often said I know but still valid. Content must be genuinely helpful, not just a sales brochure; it might work for a time but can become tiresome for the user.

The good news is, the more effort you put into content, the more you will realise the unexpected benefits.
